OUR CURRENT PROJECTS

#Latest Project - Urgent Need for Teacher's Accommodation Blocks in the East School

During our latest trip in September 2024 to the school and following discussions with the school staff we realised there is an urgent need for a teacher's accommodation block at the Eastern School.

It is really important that we properly reward the staff and ensure they and their skills are retained, particularly as it is a residential school and having the teachers close by would be of great benefit to the smooth working of the school.

We are therefore looking to raise £68,000 to build 2 x teacher's accommodation blocks comprising of 10 x self contained units.

OYHTB will, as ever, oversee all aspects of the building work in conjunction with engineers and local builders will be used to ensure maximum benefit to the local community.

Safe School Footpaths for Rural Schools in

Bhutan

Many schools in Bhutan need proper and safe school paths, particularly in areas affected by heavy rain in the summer months.

The rain makes mud of rough footpaths and leads to collection of water with potential malaria risks so our charity is instituting a programme of building school paths in Bhutan.

To date we have built school paths in 5 locations in Bhutan.

Target: £5,000

Supporting the Blind Music Training Centre - Ongoing Project

Opening Your Heart to Bhutan are proud to support the Blind Music Training Centre of Bhutan - a wonderful initiative originally set up by a group of visually impaired people in 2013, under the Disabled Persons Association of Bhutan.

The objective of the centre is to benefit disabled young people who may have difficulty accessing education and employment, by providing musical training and sourcing employment opportunities within the field of music for the graduates.

OYHTB are supporting the centre by providing rent for the centre accommodation, allowing those from poor backgrounds to board at the centre while they undertake their training.

We have also provided financial support for one of the wonderful teachers at the centre - Mr Tashi Wangchuck - as well as funding the provision of many beautiful musical instruments including yangchen, flutes and dramngyen.

Providing Nutritious Meals for Students with Special Needs

(Ongoing Project)

Help us provide nutritional meals for one student for a year for the price of a weekly cuppa!

One of the initiatives that the charity is keen to support is the improvement of the nutritional value of the food for the seventy students. It is estimated that it costs just £16 a month per student to provide three healthy meals a day, equivalent to the price of a weekly cup of coffee from your local coffee shop!

So we are seeking the help of 70 sponsors to set up a monthly donation of £16 to provide healthy meals for 70 students each year. Any regular contribution however is really welcome and will contribute towards supplying the basic essentials for many Bhutanese children such as education, nutritious food, clean drinking water and clothing.

Target: £16 per child per month

Changing Lives -
Vocational Training Materials

The two vocational training centres for special needs children have a curriculum built around equipping them with vocational skills and life skills.

Vocational skills range from weaving, embroidery and painting to wood carving, and require a steady flow of materials.

We are raising money to support both Western and Eastern Training Centres. If we hit our target of £1,000 per school we can support around 70 children at each school for one year!
