Rural outreach programme begins

Medical staff from Tashigang hospital and staff from the Drak-tscho disabled school in the East of Bhutan have this week began rural outreach programme to locate, diagnose and support disabled children living without support. The fifteen day programme, a first for Bhutan, will see a qualified physiotherapist and staff from the charity cover over fifty square miles to visit children whose disability may have seen then isolated by their own families, stigmatised by their local communities and unable to go to school. Stuck in remote rural locations these families often lack access to basic healthcare, let alone specialist physiotherapy or disability aids.

Funded by Opening Your Heart to Bhutan, it is our hope that project will identify those best supported at the vocational school for disabled children in Tashigang and educate and support families in how best to care for their children.
